Rene Lacoste was a great French tennis player in the mid 1920’s. When he played the sport he found the clothing very restrictive and unpractical. Here is where the Lacoste clothing brand began and with that, the polo shirt. During his career Rene was known as ‘the crocodile” on court. He used this as a design for the brands iconic logo. Still today many of the catwalk designs are inspired by the tennis theme.

Alongside its polo shirts the brand sells trainers, perfume, shirts, footwear, knitwear and other leather goods. The brand has had their share of ups and downs. With its popularity booming when the company descended on America in the 1930’s, everyone associated those wearing the clothing to be a ‘great sportsman’. In the 70’s the brand became popular with teenagers who seek the preppy look but, in the 90’s Lacoste’s iconic crocodile logo was dwindling, fewer people were seen wearing the brand. However its simple, practical, key pieces have kept the brand above water.

The polo shirt remains a beloved option in any man’s wardrobe, it is an essential, ‘go to’ item. This is why vintage companies like our own have embraced purchasing this iconic top in various different styles and colours. We hope you enjoy our selection and have as much fun wearing them as we did choosing them!
