The original Carhartt brand of work apparel was founded in the USA in 1889, with the European streetwear line Carhartt WIP launching 100 years later in 1989. While the main Carhartt line is the remains a workwear apparel range, with looser fitting t shirts, hoodies, overalls and chore jackets, Carhartt WIP prioritises a more tailored fit while staying true to the workwear heritage of the original American brand through its designs.
After 100 years as tradesmen, farmers and other outdoor workers’ clothing of choice, Carhartt was adopted by East Coast Hip Hop acts in the early 90’s and soon became a streetwear staple. This success was continued by the WIP line in Europe, and today Carhartt continues to be one of the most popular streetwear brands throughout the world.
