Fred Perry
Named after 3 times Wimbledon tennis champion in the 1940’s, Fred Perry is a name that has become known for being the height of British fashion.
Together with Austrian footballer, Tibby Wegner, the Stockport native created the first sweatband, which was picked up by tennis players in courts up and down the country.
In 1952 the pair launched what became the brand’s most infamous item the slim fit cotton shirt with Laurel Wreath embroidery.
Since its conception, Fred Perry has been associated with subcultures from skinheads to Mods, rude boys and two tone. In the 1990’s during the Britpop era, Fred Perry experienced a surge in popularity when bands such as Oasis and Blur were seen sporting items from the brand – solidifying Fred Perry as the embodiment of street fashion.
The wreath which has become a recognisable symbol worldwide has been seen on the likes of Amy Winehouse and Raf Simmons and has become synonymous with Britain and underground fashion whilst striving to look innovative styling ideas.
