All hail the return of 90s' athleisure!

After hoping and preying that the comfy and pretty awesome 90s sports' fashion would make a comeback for a couple of decades now, we were thrilled (but not surprised) that the hay days of Fresh Prince, Destiny's Child and Xtina's dirty days were coming back in the form of modern fashion.

This fashion that originated from 90s rappers and the streets of Brooklyn and NY, has taken flight here in the UK over the past year and a half and is showing no signs of stopping over the spring and summer period - and thank God. We at Messina Hembry know that what goes around comes around; particularly in fashion, and were prepping ourselves for the return of this casual but seriously sexy trend.

Once clocking the look on our favourite celebrities and seeing them boast comfy trainers and zip up hoodies EVEN WHEN THEY WEREN’T AT THE GYM, the fashion world was on high alert. Instagram feeds started to fill up with style icons rocking Adidas and Nike left, right and centre and it didn’t take usual  long to invade the sports’ shops and grab ourselves a pair of new Nike shoes and pair them with our favourite jeans rather than yoga leggings and head out to town rather than the gym.

Finally we have a fashion that is practical, comfortable and looks pretty damn hot, whatever the occasion. This is great news for us here at Messina Hembry, as we have a huge supply of vintage sports’ clothes, including some brilliant vintage Adidas

We’ve put together a little vintage athleisure look book for spring that will hopefully inspire you to invest in a cheaper alternative of the most popular fashion trend right now…

The Tennis Player

Spring in England is all about layers. Whilst the sun pokes its head through the clouds on most days, we're in a constant game of peekaboo and the layers come on and off, on and off throughout the day. Here we have a cute preloved dress that can be worn at any time of the day, paired with a vintage turquoise jacket which acts as the perfect buffer between you and the erratic spring weather. Turquoise is the perfect complimentary colour for the dress and its matching turquoise Adidas logo. Add a pair of light coloured trainers, vans or converse for the complete look.

The Night Bird
This trend was made for a night out and vintage Adidas has 'party' written all over it - after all, hip hop was made on athleisure. Combine this little pink strappy with a pair of black skinny jeans or skater skirt for a chilled, comfy, on trend look which will allow you to keep moving all night long. Use our grey zip up hoodie to keep warm outside or tie around your waist for a full Sporty Spice look. Whether you're looking for a night out on the town or raving it up in a field, Adidas has you covered!

The Townie

One aspect of this trend that has contributed to its popularity amongst a variety of ages and demographics, is just how comfortable and easy-a-fashion it is. Team up our black day top with this rich blue jacket and pair of jeans for the ultimate about town look. We all understand the unpredictability of spring weather which is why we recommend keeping a light jacket to hand at all times - especially one that reflects the hope we have for the colour of the sky.
The Gym Bunnie

Spring is a prime time for gym bunnies so it's time to up your gym gear game. Here, we're letting Adidas fulfil its primary purpose which is to help you get fit. For this, we've chosen a beautiful blue vintage Adidas top that brings a glimpse of summer to the treadmill and a pair of black shorts which will show that you mean business. Paired together, you should be fully equipped to face any heavy weights area, any length of time on the cross trainer and look awesome doing it too.
