The six lettered, three syllabled powerhouse GIANT, Adidas, is this month’s featured brand highlight! What better way to launch into the summer than with a company iconic and accredited with putting fitness first. Officially established in 1949 by Adolf Dassler (aka Adi Dassler) in Herzogenaurach, Germany, Adidas began its journey to greatness with the registration of the shoe design that made the brand so incredibly famous; the Adidas 3-stripes.

"The three stripes were originally installed on the shoes to give that part of the shoe more support, but it became our trademark."

- Adolf Dassler

We see these three stripes in the logo and printed across the brand’s apparel probably most days; it’s hard to walk across the road without seeing some flash of the triple threat! Now with loungewear and gym wear raising the fashion game, brands like Adidas are merely thriving on 2016’s fitness and  lifestyle trends. Brands that have never launched sportswear before are taking inspiration from those that set the bar in the first place, growing an economy of health conscious consumers.

So, this year we are seeing a bigger boost in the fitness industry than ever before as healthy eating, lifestyle and active regimes trend massively across social media and down the catwalks! We are mixing utility, function and comfort with effortless chic and cool urban style - it suits and fits everyone and there really aren’t many rules! In 1967, Adidas launched its first piece of apparel - the Franz Beckenbauer tracksuit. Of course, emblazoned with the 3-stripes, the tracksuit became iconic for the brand which had only ever been famous for its footwear. Professional athletes used and trusted Adi Dassler to create innovative and powerful sportswear that would not only suit the athletes comfort, but make them more efficient in their goals too. Adidas was soon catering for gold medalists and record breakers, building the brand an incredulous repertoire for success.

The Olympics came to Munich, Germany in 1972 and and gave Adidas the opportunity to showcase their new logo that would become symbolic of their performance and rise to fame - the Trefoil. The Trefoil is the three leafed symbol representing performance quality - with the 3 stripes running across it - a logo to last a lifetime.

In our range of Adidas Originals, we have T-shirts and sports tops from as low as £4.99 and vibrant tracksuit jackets starting at £12.99 - it’s retro, it’s real and they’re in great shape to help you get into shape!  "People may call me the father of the modern sports industry, but all I am is an athlete that saw a benefit to improving equipment."

- Adolf Dassler
