Burberry
Known for its distinct tartan pattern, Burberry was founded in Basingstoke, 1856 by former drapers’ apprentice, Thomas Burberry.
Working under three Burberry brands; Prorsum, London and Brit – Burberry is renowned for its trench coat which gained popularity with the public in the 1920’s after the War Office commissioned the brand to adjust officers’ coats for contemporary warfare.
The iconic check pattern which was created in the 1920’s was used to line the inside of trench coats following public popularity and the brand has since gone from strength- to- strength.
Becoming outfitters for the likes of Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole and Ernest Shackleton, who led an expedition across Antarctica in 1914 – Burberry has been worn by some of the biggest names of the past 100 years.
The brand which now offers its distinct check in 8 different types placed 73rd in Interbrand’s ‘Best Global Brand’ in 2014 and has been granted Royal Warrants by Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles.
