Hugo Boss
Founded in Germany in 1924, Hugo Boss is named after its founder (1885 – 1948) and became a registered trademark in 1977 starting the company’s association with motorsports sponsoring Formula 1’s Niki Lauda and the McLaren racing team.
Receiving their first orders for men’s suits in 1950 the company’s expanded to over 150 employees and since has become a major high fashion label. Branching out into ventures other than clothing, Hugo Boss’ first fragrance came in 1984 and from then on the brand went from strength-to-strength, sponsoring golfs Bernhard Langer in 1986 and tennis’ Davis Cup in 1987. In 1989 the luxury fashion brand launched their first sunglasses which were followed by their first range of footwear in 1995. Hugo Boss is now split into five separate labels preceded by ‘Boss’; Black, Orange, Selection, Green and Hugo.
